Vehicles equipped with separate transmitters only, not PATS key programming. Generally Fords 1995 through 2015
The Ford Truck Exception: Some newer Ford work vehicles, trucks, and fleet models with ‘flip keys’ or separate remote keyless entry transmitters retained the older programming procedure provided below. For example, many Ford F-150 and Ford Super Duty base models still retained the 8-turn ignition ON cycle for programming new remotes up until the 2024 model year.
Requirements: The vehicle must be equipped with Ford's OEM factory remote keyless entry feature and have 1 working key to the vehicle.
Programming for Ford remotes with the FCC IDs or part numbers: CWTWB1U-345, CWTWB1U-331, CWTWB1U-212, GQ43VT11T, 3B: 8L3T-15K601-AB, 4B: 8S4T-15K601-AB.
1. Begin without a key in the ignition and with all the vehicle’s doors closed for at least 30 seconds before starting the programming procedure:
TECH TIP: This is a time-sensitive procedure, so you may want to read the instructions first to familiarize yourself with the process before beginning.
2. Open the driver’s door and press the driver’s door UNLOCK switch 1 time. Within 10 seconds perform the next step:
TECH TIP: The driver’s door must remain open for the complete programming procedure.
3. Insert the key into the ignition and, within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from OFF to ON 8 times (DO NOT start the vehicle), leaving the ignition ON the 8th time:
TECH TIP: ‘Ignition ON’ is the last position the ignition can be in without starting the vehicle.
4. In response to performing step 3, the vehicle’s power door locks will activate. This confirms that step 3 was correctly done in the allotted amount of time (within 10 seconds):
5. Within another 10 seconds, press the LOCK button on a remote: In response, the power door lock will activate again, confirming that the remote has been programmed:
6. If you have a second remote key, press the LOCK button on that remote within 8 seconds to cycle the doors’ locks. Repeat these steps for any additional key fobs.
TECH TIP: The vehicle can only work with up to 4 keyless entry remotes at a time. Programming a 5th remote will automatically erase one of the other 4. To erase lost or stolen remotes, for example, if just 2 working remotes are wanted, you would press the LOCK button on each remote 2 times in a row (as in steps 5 & 6), waiting for the power door locks to respond each time.
7. Finally, turn the ignition to OFF and remove the key: The power door locks will activate one more last time, confirming that the new remote programming mode has been turned off. You can now test the newly programmed remote(s) by slowly toggling back and forth from lock to unlock a few times.
Pre-1995 Ford Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming
1. Locate a gray (or black on some models) 2-wire, 2-pin connector not plugged into anything:
On Trucks/SUVs: Usually located under the driver’s side dashboard near the base of the steering wheel column or behind the glove box.
On Sedans/Coupes: Frequently located in the trunk behind the driver-side or passenger-side rear wheel well cloth panel. Some are found mounted on the trunk copyright.
2. Turn the Key: Insert the key into the Ford Expedition remote start DIY ignition and turn it to the ON position without starting the engine.

Jump the pins together: Insert a paperclip or jumper wire into the two slots of the open programming connector to bridge them together (some instead have 2 bullet connectors in them): In response, the vehicle’s power door locks will activate, confirming that the vehicle is in new remote programming mode:
4. Sync the Remote(s): Press the LOCK button on the remote. The door locks will activate again, confirming the remote has been programmed. Immediately repeat this on any additional remotes.
5. Exit Programming Mode: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire. The doors will activate one last time to confirm that remote programming mode is off. Test remotes by slowly toggling back and forth from lock to unlock.
